Your point is quite valid. But we need to think how much of their physical force will be diverted to us. I would assume just enough to give us some troubles. Although we need to consider if Russia is even sending that force, like you said.

Okay, this takes us out of the realm of strategy and into motivation.
Since Dan announced the game and laid out the factions, the Russians (the REAL Russians, not the game faction) have been bragging about how good they are, calling out Tenzin for military ineptitude, and the like. The only way they can win is to play, or to try to catch the victors as they are loading up the loot, or if we conquer Minerva, ambush us on the way home.
Only the first option gives them a decent chance of winning.

Your point is taken. So we basically need to load up in a way that will stop them from betraying us, and if they don't. Give us a way to win over them if we chose to take the spoils for ourselves.. They're bent on proving that their military strategies are in fact superior to all others, aren't they?

Yeah, their credibility is kind of on the line here. To be fair, I had some problems with Tenzin's strategies myself.
Have you been reading the official turn posts and the Admin's responses? They outline the steps I'm taking to guard our flanks. I'm trying to make us hard to attack without being obvious about it--in fact, if they don't attack, they should never even know what we had planned.
The same thing applies to the trip to Minerva. Anyone attacking us will have their hands full, and we're going to double-check everything we hear.
And, since we're planning to use what we find in Minerva to attack the Papal Empire in Europe, yeah, we're taking as much as we can.
Have you read the "Common Knowledge" sections about our competitors? The Chinese don't want anything we want, The Khanate aren't going to survive the attack, the Russians and the Turkmen we could negotiate with, if necessary, but our desires overlap a lot.

That is understandable, but then again so is the story from Tenzin's point on view.
Although I would like to not have to fight the Russians as they seem like a good bunch. I somehow doubt that we'll have much of a choice in the long run. Although if we could share the spoils like civilised people that'd be nice, but if that were the case, this wouldn't be a post-apocalyptic world now would it.
If we could at least keep the alliance with the Russians till the end I could easily feel some sense of accomplishment, although if things come to pass, we may have to.
I've not had a lot of time outside the planning to look at a lot of other things with everyone deciding it's my turn to prepare for "celebrations" this year but the next chance I get I'll take a look.

The Russians really are a good bunch, and so are the Turkmen, but if you're going to play the game, you need to try to win. That means we can only trust each other so far. If you've ever played boardgames, cards, or even deathmatch computer games with friends, you know how competitive things can get.
Another reason we need to play as hard and as shrewdly as we can, is that this is essentially a beta test, and we need to try to find out what's going to break by trying to break it.
According to the Admin, we're going to take another week off after this turn (see Shoutbox below), so perhaps you can catch up on all the information. It'll make things a lot clearer.
So try to survive the holidays, and we'll pick this up again next month.

Hey, Thatevilwolf, are you still there? I learned from the Russians that the whole border of Minerva's outer territory is ringed with farming communities so we can't just sneak by--we're probably going to have to fight. If you have any questions, let's address them now before Friday when I expect we'll have to hand in a move.
