I am limited in my story telling by my lack of knowledge of many areas around the world. I try to use the internet to find out good information, but personal knowledge from my worldwide audience would be very helpful in understanding these areas better, so I can write better stories in those areas

So, I live in Switzerland.
Will it change in a hundred years ? It depends on the status of the countries environing it. If Switzerland must shut itself in, I don't know if it's going to live good. Because we need to import a lot of food and other important things. Switzerland is really small but has a lot of people living in the cities.
A lot of things depends on how will react the people to the apocalypse. Personally, I think that Switzerland could be a sanctuary in the middle of Europe, where even the power of the Pope could not manipulate the people (Switzerland is really a scientific country-but there's a lot of religious people too). A kind of Minerva, but not that much advanced.
Is it possible in your story ?

... A kind of Minerva, but not that much advanced. There is a good science fiction novel "Ballad of assault rifle". In Russian. It heroes from Siberia after World War III trying to reach dreamland of peace and tranquility: Switzerland. Существует хороший научно-фантастический роман "Автоматная баллада". В русском языке. В нем герои из Сибири после Третьей Мировой Войны пытаются достичь волшебной страны мира и спокойствия: Швейцарии.

Adriano, that's really interesting. Switzerland probably could and would maintain some independence from the Papal Empire in my story. Maybe not to a Minerva level of strength and independance, but still And Rat, are there any good English translations of that novel?

Chris, the author of this novel, published in English. Ask whether there is an English translation of this work. Крис, автор этого романа, издается на английском. Спрошу, есть ли английский перевод этого произведения.

I'm from England, UK. By the Collapse, we've probably sided with someone, trying to "do what's right" and failing miserably, and what hasn't been nuked is under water. I'm thinking radioactive mud! That's not to say there's no one living in Britain, but they're all in the wild and woolly areas and are probably quite isolated. I don't think they'd join the Papal Empire, simply because no one would think to look if anyone is still there (and they'd be desperately trying to hold on to our long history and stay Protestant, which I'm not). I see Britain (and Ireland) as having gone from over populated cities and rural farming areas to being bombed back to Pre-industrial times, with small individual towns and settlements quietly trading and trying to just 'get on with life'!
Also, the area where I live is on the east Coast of England and is pretty low lying. I think there'd be enough of a change in sea levels for it to be flooded, kind of Yorkshire, all the way down, past London (which was obviously bombed...good riddance!).

Castiel, thanks for your input! I think England would be doing a bit of it's own thing, too. Also, you should totally make a member login That way I can tag you, reply to you, etc, and you'll see the notifications

I live in arizona. Desert land, largely, though lots of other biome types around as well.
One thing people don't realize about hot deserts is that sand does NOT hold heat in. So it may get to 120 f at 3 in the afternoon out in the deep desert. but come twilight, that drops to 80, and the outside temp can be 60 by midnight. combine that with the fact that high night time winds are caused by that temperature change, and if you're still hiking in sweat covered clothes, boom, you're your own evaporative cooler. People have been known to die of freezing in the middle of the desert during the summer at night.

I live in Australia on the eastern coast and i would think we would side with nato in most conflicts despite not being a member and if those countries where fighting each other than we would side with the UK as would New zealand. Now in any war involving asia would make us a target as we export heavily to most countries in the region(food, minerals, wool and textiles) and would be a staging area for our allies.
I would expect several of our military bases to be nuked if not the city's depending on the goal. (Edit: i forgot to mention that we would most likely see mass immigration from parts of asia and perhaps Europe/USA depending on how bad they have it.)
