theleakingpen, That's really cool! Thanks for pointing that out. I'm sure Minerva could make use of a perpetual motion system like that

my own personal imagining is a series of 40 foot wide cylinders a few hundred feet along, made of dozens of these wheels all in line with offset cylinders. A single channel of water running along the bottom in a trough for warming, and then water pumped up and sprayed on the top on each side, traveling along the tops of teh cylinders due to grooves cut in them, cooling the tops.

"Минерва" расположена в горной местности. Там для производства энергии с помощью воды проще использоваь перепад высот. "Minerva" is situated in mountainous terrain. There for the production of energy through water easier to use vertical drop.

собственно говоря а что мешает сделать установку для концентрирования солнечных лучей для нагрева и испарения воды ? ставим турбину получаем ток и вуаля

Ok, am I being obvious, but what about bio-digesters for producing methane from waste? Biofuels? Gasohol? This is tech in use now, albeit in warmer countries, but still a possibility if we assume some improvements over time. Also, hydroelectric power, wind power, waste incinerators are all options for producing electricity based on current technology that could work in anywhere with a stable population and suitable geography.

Good point castiel. There are probably some waste dumps that still produce that already have old capture and burn equipment in place that could be used.

The problem with minto wheels is scale once you get above a certain size they will be too heavy to move freely making large scale near useless. Now biological waste fed methane producers are interesting in that as long as you can store and burn it you can produce steam powered engines that take far less machining than say a piston or turbine engine.

Dazim, depends on what you mean by large scale. I've seen one running that was about 20 foot in diameter. Required a lot of gearing, but gave some decent power (it was mostly used to run a pump and a mill, more than generate juice. of course, the old belt system of energy transfer might make a comeback?)

Why do we need to think about other sources of energy that we can use steam engines and kill each other?

Why do we need to think about other sources of energy that we can use steam engines and kill each other? For steam you need fire and for fire you need something to burn. Turkmen do not have wood enough and for oil I think we're doomed.

A good and relatively cheap way to harness wind power would be this - floating air turbine: it doesn't need an expensive pillar and is more efficient since winds are stronger at 200-300 meters above the ground where it would float. Неплохим и относительно дешевым способом получать энергию от ветра будет летающий ветряк: он не требует дорогой опоры и более эффективен, так как на высоте в 200-300 метров ветер значительно сильнее.

It would be effective in our circumstances. In the game, however... It's complicated and very vulnerable. And it might even be dangerous to users, if not space-expensive (Depending on choice - helium or hydrogen).
As Minerva got pretty cheap (for them) solar batteries, which are much easier in exploitation...

Hey, Admin, does Minerva have thermonuclear fusion plants ? Like tokamak, I mean, not the laser-model.
