We switch production from #1 diesel to the colder-weather tolerant #2 diesel, and begin filling oil drums with it.
I had originally planned to follow the E40 highway until it got too close to the Turkmen, and then swing east on one of the old Silk Road paths, but Amberlight offered us a more northern passage. He hasn't shared the actual route yet, however. I'm pretty sure he has tanks, because the same factories that produced Russia's tanks also produced their tractors, and I've established that they are producing tractors. I don't know if he's setting up an ambush for later or if he just wants a better road. Just figure us going straight east from the top of the Caspian Sea for now.
We begin producing some nasties. We fill some of the 55 gallon oil drums we've been producing with ammonium nitrate fertilizer. In turn, we pair some of them with drums containing fuel oil, stacking the fuel oil drum on top, and connecting them with a gate valve which, if opened, will allow the oil to mix with the ammonium nitrate granules. A blasting cap completes the package. These will be hidden in the walls of the compounds being built between us and the Turkmen, and hidden in the pedestals of statues of the Caliph and his three sons which will be placed in the villages between us and the Russians. the drums will have concealed triggers for releasing the valves and either set by a timer or detonated remotely so that the invaders will be in mid-loot when the world ends. Our people in the compounds and the villages will be told to arm the devices and flee. Those compounds whose walls are already completed will be furnished with extra drums of fuel oil to conceal the bombs.
The remaining drums of ammonium nitrate will be taken to Minerva to cause mischief there.
We also have the soldiers not yet on their way to our forward base area dig and conceal"Tiger Pit" anti-tank traps in the fields so that the tanks will be forced to use the roads.

I can't entirely see anything else that needs to be done. Although I am curious as to how much Artillery we have, Mortars, mounted cannons etc and the general range on them.

7 hours ago QuoteMessage Options We would like to extend you an offer of further cooperation in our actions against Minerva. Our scout units have made good progress in mapping northern area of Minerva and we also have reconnaissance units with experience of stealth operations on their territory. We offer you an exchange of data - we will provide you the information we gathered about Minerva and update you on anything our scouts discover. In return, you will provide with the information about your forces involved in the actions against Minerva and warn us about your plans on that issue so we could adjust our own actions for greater combined effect. It will also be good if you assist our scouting teams if needed. deltav Faction 5

14 minutes ago QuoteMessage Options That would indeed be helpful both to map the area and to prevent "friendly fire" incidents. If your forces are not already travelling to Minerva, we are planning to improve the roads and paths as we go, and you would be welcome to use them also. We are not building highways, just filling holes, repairing bridges, and digging out landslides. We were planning to use parts of the old E40 roadbed, but if you know an easier, faster, better route, that might help us both. The plains are one thing, but there are only so many paths through the mountains.
And we would be happy to assist your scouts especially if they find some bandits to fight.

Heh, yes, the scholars and scientists would be a greater hindrance than a help to the actual defenders.
Our greatest enemy is going to be the weather, but you're right, we can't ignore the other factions. Here are the steps I propose for building a base: First, pick a defendable site close enough to Minerva that we don't wear ourselves out getting from it to our attack positions, but out of range of the defenders' weapons. Terrain may force us to build further away than we want, but we'll see when we get there. Second put up tents and covered areas to protect the men, equipment, and supplies. Third, construct a walled compound big enough to hold the entire force, and begin building barracks, the infirmary, the mosque, and other quarters and buildings including an armory and stores. Fourth, send the trucks back to Astrakhan to be refitted for cold weather operation and to pick up the next contingent of troops and more supplies, including cold weather gear for the men. The armored cars and enough guards would be sent along to discourage bandits. Fifth, move the men into the barracks and the stores and equipment into storage areas as soon as they are ready, and finish the defenses.
As soon as the site is chosen, we send out spies and scouts to find out where everybody else is, and what they're up to.
What do you think, and what else would you like to see us do?
