I think they would fight more as classic light cavalry (the horse kind, not modern sort) - Rushing in, hitting fast and fading away into the hills again. I'm basing this on their sail buggies: light or no armour, but fast and highly manoeuvre-able-ible, however it's spelled!
Also, I think this was how Genghis himself worked, until he conquered enough people to class as a horde, so it would seem appropriate. =)
