On them I imagine two way :
1) Their religion is eco-friendly and they want to destroy Minerva cuz they have the technologies of before the apo. They think their gods sent the apo because mankind was too technologic and not worshipping the gods.
So they want to fight and use the past technology to do it, and they need oil to invade Europe. So they will first attack Minerva and take all their oil before attacking the pope ^-^
2) Their religion is drastically against technology. They must destroy all industrial technology for their gods and the Earth. Minerva for them is the Devil. But how can they fight with no technology ? Well, priests have all knowledge and technologies. They are the chiefs of their societies (feudalism based on priests not on lords) and their generals, leading troops to victory by the use of prohibited techs. They need to do this crusade until all Eurasia has been cleaned of modern technology.
